This session at Edison High School we are continuing with our project “The Power of Positivity.” Students will play with image transfer techniques for paper arts, collage, fiber arts, and more. They will also learn the best methods for combining, transferring, and layering found and created imagery in their work. We have a new classroom and new students! Can’t wait to see what we create together. Stay tuned for new postcards, magnets, candles, and lots of positiveness. Positive Mind, Positive Vibes, Positive Life.

This is our first year at Mastery Lenfest and we had a great time introducing students to elements of design and blind contour drawing exercises.

After a cool discussion, we found out that our new students view art as a way to express themselves and they believe that murals give people hope. We agree.

This week at Vision Quest Damaso and I gave out students a brief introduction, we handed out intake forms and surveys. We talk to them about the theme of our session. We discussed the art of being a DJ and had the students choose to mix and match a DJ name from the curriculum but they preferred to use their own personal DJ names. It was good to see some of the students working together.

The start of the fall session has begun at Sayre High School. Both students and staff were all excited to begin programming. This week we went over projects, classroom rules and a few drawing exercises.

So another year starts and a bright horizon is in the distances. The class room feels new, but still home to the students that took part in interview this week. To kick off the new year we set up a pop shop at the second annual pearl street block party. To express the rich programs mural arts education has and to tell the word of Artrepreneurs. Good times where had, merchandise was sold, and excitement for the new year was present.

Over at E3 West, Mr. Jared and Ms. Becky are continuing the journey2home project, which informed our comic book and mask projects last year.  This fall we will be looking at political posters, as we continue to build awareness of Philly’s housing insecure youths.

Class starts Monday!

Mr. Jared and Ms. Becky, with our new friend Ms. Margaret, have been getting ready to start our Mastery Shoemaker Mural Arts class back up next week!  This semester we’ll be working with natural plant dyes and linoleum block prints, as well as visiting the galleries and studios of several Philly artists.  Can’t wait to see these faces on Tuesday!

This was our first week at PYAP. Joseph got the students to write their names and favorite hook from a song. We had a discussion about what they wrote. Joseph introduced the fall DJ Scratch Academy Projects. We listened to a few vinyl records and illustrated a album cover for Will Smith’s song Summertime.
